Perks People Look For in a Rental Property

March 11, 2015 by Ryan

There are a lot of different things that people might want in their home. Everyone has different tastes and needs, but there are some essentials that everyone can agree on. People who rent a home instead of owning know that they will not have all the luxuries of owning a home, but there are some luxuries that they will demand.

There are some features that everyone should look for in their rental home, and additionally, every landlord should include in their rental properties. Here are some of the perks people look for in a rental property.

Utilities included

Utilities are a big expense for anyone, even people in a small rental property. Very few landlords today will include utilities like TV from http://www.directspecials.com/directv/ in their rental price today, so any properties that do include any utilities are a big plus for renters.

A good location

Location is one of the most important factors in a rental property. When renting, many people will not settle for a place far away from their work or school, but they also want an area that is safe. Finding a mix of both of these things can be difficult.

Shared areas

Most rental properties will involve tenants using some shared areas with other tenants. Some of these areas usually include laundry facilities, parking areas and other common space. It is important for tenants to know that their items will be safe in these shared spaces and that they will be used respectfully by everyone in the property.

No surprise guests

Everyone wants to know what they are getting themselves into when they move into a rental home. No one wants to have any surprises during their lease. One common issue is bugs in the property. This is something that many landlords will not disclose, but doing so could mean really bad reviews for the property and management.

The ability to customize

Even though many renters will know that they cannot customize a rental space as much as they would a home that they own, they still want to be able to customize the space a little. Letting tenants paint and hang pictures are just a couple ways to do this.

Storage

Storage is one of the biggest complaints that tenants have in a rental home. Often there is little to no storage options inside the space, and few or no shared storage options outside the home. Adding extra storage, shared or not, is always preferred for potential renters. This can be done easily by adding a storage locker system outside the building.

Safety

No one wants to live in an area where they do not feel safe. Increasing security and emphasizing safety should always be a top priority for landlords, no matter where their properties are. Installing security systems in the rooms and around the premises as well as partaking in neighborhood watch programs are just a couple advancements any landlord can make to increase security in their rental properties.
